Coronado Island

Some of my family is staying on Coronado Island this week, so Al and I went to San Diego to spend a day with them. View going over Coronado Bridge.

My family was staying on the military base, so we got to use all the amenities and basically got a beach to ourselves all day.

Another perfect day in California

The highlight of the day was "Clamming." You stick your toes in the sand and move your feet around until you feel a hard shell. Reach down and WHA LA.... A Clam. There was a couple guys out waist deep with buckets and gloves. Apparently you can only Clam a few days a year when the tide is really low and this was one of those lucky Clamming days. Here is Blake running with a Clam he found.

Later that day we were all out there with our toes in the sand trying to find some. I'm not really sure if it's legal to take all the clams you want from the ocean, but with 7 of us clamming we found a grand total of 17. I'm not sure what the average clammer collects, but for beginners I would say we did pretty good.

After you catch them you leave them in salt water for 2 hours so they will purge all the sand. We cooked them for dinner that night. Not your typical dinner and definately a little random.

When you put them in boiling water the shell cracks and they come out looking like this. Kind of creepy right??

It's hard knowing what and what not to eat. I'm sure you could eat the entire thing if you wanted, but I'm good with just the mussels. We sauteed them in garlic and butter and got this. They are really really really CHEWY. I love seafood, but when it comes to clams I will probably just stick to chowder and

Halllloweeeeneeee

Halloween weekend was a ton of fun. We met up with my Aunt Mary and Uncle Rolf on Friday in Hermosa beach to have dinner and watch Blake play in the water.

It was a perfect day!!
It amazes me how kids don't notice how cold the water is. The best part of the evening was watching the dolphins. They were so beautiful.
Blake thought it was really cool that I spelled his name in the sand. Cheap entertainment.

We went to a Halloween party with some friends. We were Popeye and Olive Oil. I think it's important to act like whoever you're dressing up as, so a couple weeks before Halloween I was watching old Popeye and Olive Oil episodes just to make sure I had it down. Al thought I was a werido, but that is why we won "most authentic costume" at the party!!

On Halloween day we went to Forest Lawn Cemetary to find Walt Disney's grave. That might sound a little creepy, but it was Halloween so we have an excuse. This Cemetary is HUGE and it is beautiful. Supposedly this is where Michael Jackson is buried too and we actually met a guy walking around looking for his grave....lol There are random statues like the one below everywhere.
