SLC Fun

A few more random things we did while we were in Utah. Al took Alex sledding for his first time.  Alex doesn't own any winter clothes so we bought him a coat and he's wearing sweats over his jeans, California boy.

and then he was mad and really cold, so we left.  It was a fun 15 minutes.

Thank goodness no one else got the flu.  It was so awful and proves that flu shots are a scam, but maybe not since Al, Alex, and Cole had them and didn't get it??

My mom and I went to the new Harmons across from City Creek and had some of their complimentary waters with pebble ice and my favorite chocolate covered cinnamon bears.

It's the one of the nicest grocery stores I've ever seen.

The last night we were there we took Alex to see the lights at Temple Square while my mom watched Cole for us.

We finally convinced Alex to wear a hat so he didn't freeze to death.  It turned out to be a blizzard which makes Temple Square even more beautiful.

We went into the Joseph Smith building and lost Alex for about 30 seconds which almost gave me a heart attack and then we ran into our friends that used to live by us in LA.  It's a small Mormon world we live in.

I don't really understand why someone would cut off the top of the temple when taking our picture especially when it's obvious we want that in our picture?  

It was a successful trip to Utah and good news we fit everything in our bags minus the kitchen and jeep, but hopefully we will get them soon.  We flew 2 days after Christmas and the airport and flight were empty which was awesome.  Alex ended up getting his own seat next to Al.  He drank juice with his wings, ate cookies, and watched cartoons.  It was a perfect ending to our trip and so nice to be back home in our own beds.  Thank you to everyone for all their help and gifts.  We miss you all.  

Christmas With The Camerons

Christmas time in LA was a little different without cold and snow. I found a neighborhood in Woodland Hills called Candy Cane Lane that is way famous for their lights....so famous it took an hour to drive through. All the houses were super creative. The best part was the people walking down the streets selling Fresh Mistletoe, Glowsticks, and Candy. I was looking for the Mango/Boogie Board people from the beach, but I guess they haven't heard of Candy Cane Lane.
The next house had every inflatable Christmas decoration you could imagine.
I was trying to take a picture of the sign that said Candy Cane Lane, but someones big head was blocking it....

I loved the next one except the UCLA on the roof.

On Tuesday we headed to SLC. I didn't get my wish of flying and my love for road trips hasn't gotten any better.The drive was crazy on the way there. Just outside of Vegas we hit a crazy dust storm.

Then after Cedar City we hit a horrible snow storm and it didn't stop until Provo. Our 10 hour drive turned into what seemed like 30 hours. It's the only time I've seen Al drive with two hand and his knuckles were seriously white. I don't know how we didn't slide off the road....so thankful we made it safely!!
I'm not really sure how I lived through 25 winters.....Utah was sooooo cold.

That night we ordered pizza at Al's parents house which is at Suncrest(the very top of the mountain). It seriously took him FOREVER to find it and when he pulled up in the fog this is all you could see.....his cop/security pizza light
We stayed with Al's grandparents. I think their house looks so pretty in the snow.
I've been having cravings for mini candy canes, not regular ones, only minis. I've looked everywhere in LA and couldn't find them anywhere, so my mom got me my very own box. YAY
On Christmas Eve we went to Temple Square to look at the lights.

I don't know if we chose the coldest night, but it was so miserable...lol My coat and gloves did nothing and the wind didn't help. I think it was a record time of looking at the lights because we were seriously done in 15 minutes.
We even got Liz to come.....she had enough layers on for all of us and was the only one that stayed warm.
Afterwards we went to this Thai place by my moms and got the best soup ever. It's called Guay Tew Sen Lek Num and I think it's better than Pho. I've been asking for it at every Thai place we eat at in CA, but I have been unsuccessful in finding it.
Afterwards I talked Al into driving us past my favorite Christmas lights in Murray...Christmas Utah. The house has lights EVERYWHERE and you tune your radio to 99.9 and the lights go to the music. It's so entertaining the car next to us was parked watching with a bag of popcorn.
We started off with Christmas morning at my moms house. Here is her pretty tree.

In the condo buildings next to Aria is a new mall. It is HUGE, but only has like 20 stores.

The coolest fountain in front of Aria which I would love to see at night. The color is so bright during the day, so I'm sure it looks amazing at night.
We never made it to Vdara which is next to the Bellagio, but it is a smoke and casino free hotel. What fun is that?
Since everyone in Vegas was at City Center we decided to go to lunch at Pink Taco at Hard Rock. They have the best Mexican food and there is also one like 15 minutes from our house.
It was so much fun to see Bonnie and Jarom. Thanks for meeting up with us!! On our way home 15 minutes outside of Primm we hit this worst traffic EVER.....Ugh
Al saw that there was a different road we could take on Google Maps. So 20 minutes west of Primm we ended up on this dirt road. It was like the twilight zone...no signs of civilization.

Luckily we saw a truck and he said...Go bout 11 miles on the durt rowd and youll come to a fork in the rowd.....take a left and follow it until you hit the freeway.
11 miles in a Honda takes a lot longer than you expect, but eventually we reached this road and beat most of the traffic. I'm not sure if we saved time or not, but it was definately an adventure.
